AFSOC releases telework program

Tired of cubicle life? Sick of Highway 98 traffic? Want more freedom?

Then, the Office of Personnel Management’s Telework Program may be right for you.

Telework is a voluntary arrangement where a military member or civilian employee works during regular duty hours at home or an approved alternate worksite on a regular or situational basis, according to an Air Force Special Operations Command memo released May 1, 2017.

Those who exhibit suitable work performance and conduct may be permitted to telework when feasible, according to Lt. Gen. Brad Webb, AFSOC commander.

“We are always looking at new ways to invest in the resiliency of our force, family and relationships,” Webb said. “The telework program is one such initiative.”

However, telework isn’t an option for everyone.

Those who handle classified materials on a daily basis aren’t typically eligible to telework.

Also, there are some positions that make telework difficult or impossible, such as those that require hands-on or face-to-face contact with patients, machinery, equipment or vehicles.

Air Commandos who request to telework must be in good standing as far as performance and behavior.

The telework program allows Air Commandos more flexibility to maintain work-life balance.

If interested, ensure you are in a telework-approved position and speak to your immediate supervisor.

Approved civilian employees must record all telework hours worked in the Automated Time Attendance and Production System (ATTAAPS) so participation can be properly tracked.

Approved military members are encouraged to have a telework agreement on file using DD Form 2946.
