DUKE FIELD, Fla. -- The 919th Special Operations Wing safety office Airmen develop, implement, execute and evaluate safety regulations in order to promote safety awareness and mishap prevention around the wing. “We have over 20 occupational safety reps at the 919th SOW,” said Senior Master Sgt. Carl Pizzo, occupational safety manager for the 919th SOW. “They are trained to uphold a safe work environment and ensure our Airmen stay free of injury base wide.”
The 919th SOW occupational safety section mitigates risk of injury of Citizen Air Commandos, protects resources, and preserves combat capability. The team is divided into three sections; occupational, flight and weapons safety. Not only are they responsible for inspecting and maintaining the safety standards in every day tools such as protective equipment, wiring in the offices, fire extinguishers, they also cover hazards in sports, recreation and traffic safety on the installation.
“Every day we come to work ready to enhance, maintain, and keep our installation alive and well,” said Senior Master Sgt. James Horne, occupational safety specialist with the 919th SOW. “If we see hazards, we immediately try to resolve and mitigate them so we can prevent injury and keep everyone safe.”
The occupational safety team recommends Airmen always use equipment correctly according to code and to maintain a basic knowledge of safety guidelines.
