Air Force officials presented the mission networking team at Air Force Special Operations Command Cyber and C4 directorate the 2016 Department of Defense Chief Information Office Annual Award Nov. 30 at the Pentagon.

One of the many reasons they won is because they saved the Air Force millions of dollars, said Terry Halvorsen, DoD chief information officer.

“They validated multiple airborne and terrestrial mission network requirements and systems,” he said. “They increased airborne ISR capability by 100 percent while slashing the latency by 40 percent, saving the Air Force $17 million.”

The Cyber and C4 Directorate is responsible for fielding enterprise communication capabilities to be utilized by Special Operations Forces.

A6 topped more than 125 individuals and teams that were nominated for the award this year.

“The competition was tough this year,” Halvorsen said. “It was the highest number of award nominations in 17 years.”
