The jackal is black denoting its nocturnal nature and the squadron's covert mission normally conducted under the cloak of darkness. The swift and agile roadrunner bird represents the abilities of the squadron to prepare mission plans, to operate as a deployed combat staff, and to deploy and mobilize forces worldwide, as depicted by the globe. The reguardant posture of the bird reflects the unit's thoroughness in maintaining the forces that it supports. The warrior's spear symbolizes the special operations functions supported by the squadron during combat operations.

Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are used in the design. Blue represents the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to 353rd Maintenance Squadron, the red white and blue background symbolizes the boldness of our actions, the search of perfection and devotion to duty. The yellow handled, two sided sword represents the intuition and cutting edge of our logistical and maintenance personnel. The yellow and red crystal ball symbolizes the highest value of the Air Force Special Operations Command's vision of the future. The black top hat exemplifies sophistication, the magician-like spirit of the maintainer performing his mission to the U.S. Air Force.

The blue disc suggests a globe and denotes the worldwide mission of the special tactics units. The qualification badge wings suggest the heritage of air commando operations during World War II and the beginning of Air Force Special Operations units. The banded arrows represent the fast response and teamwork necessary to complete the unit's work. They also define the operational capabilities of the squadron -- combat control, pararescue and operations support. The black border reflects the clandestine nature of the squadron's missions.

The emblem is symbolic of the squadron and its mission. The red, white and blue are the national colors that ride with the squadron into battle and victory. The pale alludes to the numeral 1, the unit's numerical designation and marks it as first among its peers. The eagle represents the squadron's air mission and the three arrows depict the unit's capability to strike, to reconnoiter and to resupply. The compass role signifies the squadron's worldwide reaction capability. The colors gold and blue denote the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations, with gold referring to the sun and day, and blue to night, and also indicating the squadron's ability to work in darkness as well as light. The emblem bears the national colors and the Air Force colors gold and ultramarine blue.
