The 27th Special Operations Security Forces Squadron hosted a Pistol Excellence in Competition March 1-3, at the firing range here.

Competitors used an M9 Beretta pistol to fire 30 rounds of 9 mm ammunition at a target 25 meters away.

“We’re here to see who the best of the best are on base,” said Staff Sgt. Brock Brown, 27th SOSFS NCO-in-charge of combat arms. “It builds morale, relieves some stress on personnel and just lets people come out and gain some experience.”

Participants who finished in the top 10 percent earned a ‘Pistol Excellence in Competition’ medal.

The winners were:

Capts. Adam Pereira and Robert Roby, 524th Special Operations Squadron
Army Sgt. 1st Class Erich Franck, 27th Special Operations Support Squadron
1st Lt. Michael Fernando, 27th Special Operations Communications Squadron
David Boiko, 27th Special Operations Force Support Squadron
Senior Airman Ryan Thomas, 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron
Airman 1st Class Iturbe Valdez, 27th Special Operations Contracting Squadron
Chief Master Sgt. Scott Samdahl, 27th Special Operations Maintenance Group.

According to Brown, combat arms plans to host more weapons competitions in the future.
