MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The first maintainer was inducted into the Commando Hall of Honor, April 18 at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
Bruce Brandewie, an Ohio native, has been in the Air Force Special Operations Command community since 1981. Although retired, he continues to serve as the superintendent for maintenance policy and procedures at AFSOC’s Logistics Directorate (A4).
Brandewie was and remains a true Air Commando, said Donnie Williams, AFSOC A4 deputy director, who nominated him for the accolade.
“He’s a quiet professional with ingenuity, relentless focus on mission, and a resilience to overcome challenges anytime, anyplace,” he said. “As an aircraft mechanic, Bruce was committed to the safety and lives of our Air Commandos, who were dependent on his skill and judgment for 34 years. He continues to carry the grave responsibility of determining airworthiness of aircraft and equipment.”
During his service, Bruce evolved into a superior logistician, the first in and last out, Williams said.
“Regardless of mission or location, task force partners and senior leaders found immediate security when the cargo door would open, and Bruce was there to greet them,” he said. “He continues to serve with the energy and drive of a new Airman, but with the knowledge and experience of a true chief master sergeant.”
Brandewie said working in AFSOC is a privilege.
“Being part of a team that will never give up is a life-changing event,” he said. “It requires us all to do more than we could have ever done on our own.”
Brandewie said he feels very humbled to have been inducted.
“As with all awards and honors, they are not possible without the help and support of those around you,” he said. “I have been blessed to have worked alongside the best maintainers and operators in the business. I have met and watched hundreds of people at all levels who are deserving of this honor.”
