The 27th Special Operations Wing greeted more than 50 local government officials as part of the New Mexico Association of Counties tour at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., June 19.

Col. Dave Piech, 27th Special Operations Mission Support Group commander, invited the group as part of the wing's ongoing effort to foster good working relations with community partners.

The association pulls elected county officials and affiliates from 33 counties to stay updated on legislation. Each state has a variation of the association and all gather annually for a national conference.

New Mexico counties began meeting annually in 1936 to address concerns and collaborate on initiatives. In 1968, the NMAC was officially incorporated and has served as a statewide voice since.

This non-profit, nonpartisan association is based in the idea that all county-elected officials and employees must have the chance to act collectively to solve problems and work toward the progress of New Mexico government.

Cannon's guests were provided the opportunity to see several static displays of aerial assets during their brief tour on the flightline.
