Air Commandos bring kids to work

HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- Airmen brought their children to work today to see work centers, tour the base airpark, and enjoy the festivities during the Air Force Special Operations Command picnic here at Hurlburt Field, Fla.

"Me and my daughter, Amelia, enjoyed the tour of the airpark," said Senior Master Sgt. Charles Godfrey, AFSOC Inspector General. "It was all good," Amelia added.

More than 100 parents and children from AFSOC and the child development centers on base received a guided tour of the airpark.

After the tour, families went to the AFSOC picnic at the community park. Food vendors served barbecue pork, hamburgers and hotdogs, and chicken wings. A local dance company entertained the crowd throughout the day.

To cool down on this hot and sunny day, an ice cream truck served cold treats. Also, a water splash pad and wading pool were open for everyone to enjoy.

"We ask a lot out of our people every day, and they always deliver," said Chief Master Sgt. Bill Turner, AFSOC command chief. "This is our way to say thanks and enjoy the greatness of AFSOC."

After lunch, the directorates competed in several competitions, including a three-legged race, potato sack race, water balloon toss and more.

"This is the first time in seven years that AFSOC has come together for a picnic," said Lt. Gen. Eric Fiel, AFSOC commander. "We had 936 Airmen and family members come out and that's awesome. I'm glad people had fun."
