LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- A memorial honoring Staff Sgt. Scott D. Sather, a combat controller, was unveiled, Jan. 20, 2012, Medina Annex, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Sather was the U.S. Air Force's first combat casualty during Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a combat controller, he was assigned to the 24th Special Tactics Squadron, Pope Air Force Base, N.C.
