Beginning Sept. 28, Independence Road will be closed to through traffic for 30 days while contractors complete a storm water infrastructure project near the Shoppette.

Construction will take place between the Shoppette's east entrance and just west of Hartson Street. Barricades will be placed on both sides of the construction site.

The running path in this area will also be inaccessible.

Detour signs will be posted at the intersection of Terry Avenue and Independence Road as well as the Tully Avenue and Independence Road round-about. A sign indicating Independence Road closure will also be posted at the Cody Avenue and Independence Road intersection.

"Please encourage folks traveling from west of Hurlburt who work on the east side of the base to detour around and use Hurlburt's east gate to alleviate through traffic in the AFSOC HQ area," said Lt. Col. Shawn Moore, 1st Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron commander.
