AFSOC senior NCO earns AF-level accolades Published June 30, 2008 By Master Sgt. Buffy Galbraith Air Force Special Operations Command public affairs HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- Air Force officials recently announced the 2007 Outstanding Air Force Aviation Resource Management award winners, and Air Force Special Operations Command has proven, once again, that it's among the best. Master Sgt. Mary Voss, the assistant branch chief for aviation resource management, has been named the outstanding Headquarters Staff Member of the Year. "Sergeant Voss is most definitely one of my best aviation managers in the command," said Chief Master Sgt. Darcy Standish, functional manager and branch chief for aviation resource management. "Her dedication, stellar work, and leadership truly set her above her fellow aviation resource managers." According to her award-winning package, Sergeant Voss exemplified this dedication by organizing workshops to meet the annual training requirements for more than 80 ARMs. "Sergeant Voss is a tremendous asset to the command and the local community," said Col. Steven Olive, Air, Space, and Cyberspace deputy director. "She's not afraid to go beyond her normal duties and it's not surprising to see her get this kind of recognition at the Air Force level." Not one to be motivated by recognition, Sergeant Voss routinely shows that the mission and its people come first. Her tireless work effort recently helped shape the future of more than 50 would-be leaders when she drafted mentorship briefings that incorporated education and career path operations. "She's a top-notch professional who deserves to be recognized every day," said Colonel Olive. Sergeant Voss also received accolades for outstanding management of aviation and parachutist actions for 3,000 aircrew and parachutist members that ensured accurate disbursement of $1.2 million of incentive pay entitlements. "It takes a team of dedicated individuals who are continuously motivated to do more than the minimum," said Sergeant Voss. "I work with and for people who are mission driven and always put people first. I didn't get here by myself." Sergeant Voss credits caring supervisors and her own mentor, Chief Standish, with her success, and encourages other to look to leaders for inspiration. "She is definitely the tip of the spear in our career field and among the headquarters staff senior NCOs," said Chief Standish. "This award just speaks about her and the work she does for AFSOC day in and day out."
