Honor Guard rolls out online request process Published Feb. 16, 2007 By Dylan Laurie Contract writer HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- The Hurlburt Field honor guard now utilizes the Web to provide customers a new way of reserving their services. A new link on the honor guard Web site allows members of Hurlburt and the community to request their participation at funerals, retirement ceremonies, weddings and other venues requiring the colors. The link was established to standardize the communication between the honor guard and its customers, according to Tech. Sgt. Paul Harrison, 1st Special Operations Services Squadron honor guard NCO-in-charge, who came up with the idea. "It's a lot easier than calling up here and getting an answering machine if we are out doing a ceremony," Sergeant Harrison said. Through the online process, the honor guard receives an e-mail, which gives them confirmation of the request. The customer receives phone verification once the service is scheduled. The benefit of this is the coordination it provides with the Eglin Air Force Base honor guard, which performs funeral services in conjunction with Hurlburt members, according to Sergeant Harrison. "We cover the first half of the month and Eglin covers the last half," he said. "But all the information is going to come here. We'll be the hub for Eglin and Hurlburt Field and send the tasking out." The Web site, which is updated daily, also allows patrons to view existing commitments for availability purposes, and includes photos and biographies of all the honor guard members. Anyone attempting to use the site on base should be aware of a small glitch that switches the 'http' to 's' and brings up a 'Web site not found' error message. The problem is resolved by deleting the 's.' For more information, visit http://www.hurlburt.af.mil/basewide/services/pages/honorguard.html.
