Officials announce Air Force safety awards

 Air Force safety officials announced the winners of the 2005 safety awards.

They are: 

-- Colombian Trophy: 4th Special Operations Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Fla. 

-- Air Force Chief of Safety Outstanding Achievement Award for Ground Safety: Category I, Ogden Air Logistics Center at Hill AFB, Utah; Category II, 48th Fighter Wing at Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England; Category III, 33rd FW at Eglin AFB, Fla.; Category IV, 353rd Special Operations Group at Kadena AB; Category V, 724th Air Mobility Squadron at Aviano AB, Italy.

-- Secretary of the Air Force Safety Award: Category 1, U.S. Air Forces in Europe at Ramstein Air Base, Germany; Category II, Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M.

-- Maj. Gen. Benjamin D. Foulois Memorial Award: Pacific Air Forces at Hickam AFB, Hawaii.

-- Col. Will L. Tubbs Memorial Award for Ground Safety: Category I, Air Combat Command at Langley AFB, Va.; Category II, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo.

-- Koren Kolligian Jr. Trophy: Capt. Andreas Ix of the 58th Airlift Squadron at Altus AFB, Okla.

-- System of Cooperation Among the Air Forces of the Americas Flight Safety Award: 317th Airlift Group at Dyess AFB, Texas.

-- Chief of Staff Individual Safety Award: Lt. Col. Tracy Dillinger of the Air Force Safety Center at Kirtland AFB.

-- Safety Career Professional of the Year Award: Senior Master Sgt. Stephen Benoit of the 435th Air Base Wing at Ramstein AB.

-- Air Force Nuclear Surety Outstanding Achievement Award: Tech. Sgt. Lewis Long of the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman AFB, Mo.

-- Air Force Explosive Safety Outstanding Achievement Award: Master Sgt. Antonio Berry of the 18th Wing at Kadena AB, Japan.

-- Air Force Chief of Safety Special Achievement Award: North Dakota Air National Guard’s 119th FW.

-- Air Force Chief of Safety Aircrew of Distinction Award: Capts. Lars Johnsen and Thomas Staley, 1st Lt. Michael Gard, Master Sgts. Brian Johnson and Christopher Vonvultee, Staff Sgt. Gregory Everett, Tech. Sgt. Jeffrey Begley and Senior Airman Daniel Schrodt of the 43rd AW at Pope AFB, N.C.

-- Air Force Chief of Safety Medical Achievement Award: Human performance training team with the 509th Medical Operations Squadron at Whiteman AFB.

-- Air Force Chief of Safety Space Crew of Distinction Award: XS-11 space operations crew with the Space and Missile Systems Center at Kirtland AFB.

-- Air Force Directed Energy Weapons Safety Outstanding Achievement Award: Safety and environmental compliance team with Air Force Research Laboratory’s directed energy directorate at Kirtland AFB.
