Air Commando recognized in Washington D.C.

HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. --  Chief Master Sgt. Jacob Dunbar is the latest Air Commando to receive nationwide recognition when he was acknowledged for his achievements at the 10th Annual Stars and Stripes recognition dinner in Washington D.C., Feb. 8.

The Stars and Stripes recognition dinner is held annually in the nation’s capitol to recognize outstanding African-American leaders, military and civilian, within the Department of Defense.

“It came as a surprise really,” Dunbar said of the recognition. He said he was simply focused on doing his job and taking care of people.
Dunbar is the chief enlisted manager of Air Force Special Operations Command Installations and Mission Support Directorate, and oversees over 700 personnel across AFSOC.

Dunbar credits the success of his 28-year career to those who have mentored him throughout his Air Force journey. “I love the Air Force… because of the people.” Because of this, Dunbar never passes up an opportunity to mentor others. He said that when someone comes to him with a problem, that person becomes his top priority.

Dunbar said he was impressed by the turnout at the event, and by the level of support from around the DoD and the Washington, D.C. area. Senior leaders from all services were present at the ceremony to commend this year’s outstanding performers, including Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James and Air Force Chief of Staff General Mark Welsh III.
