AFSOC nominates Hurlburt team for Lambertsen innovation award Published Nov. 3, 2015 AFSOC Public Affairs HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- Air Force Special Operations Command nominated an eight-person team for an innovation award, officials announced Oct. 28, 2015. The Hurlburt Field-based team will compete against other entries for U.S. Special Operations Command’s Dr. Christian J. Lambertsen Award for Operational Innovation. Members of the team are: - Maj. Nicholas Noreus and Master Sgt. Joshua Moore, 8th Special Operations Squadron - Staff Sgt. Robert McLendon, Senior Airmen Dalton Obenshain and Skylar Parker, and Benny Gray, 1st Special Operations Maintenance Squadron - Master Sgts. Shawn Martell and Jarrett Score, 801st Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron This group identified and solved problems with loading tactical multi-person vehicles onto the CV-22 Osprey. The width of the vehicle was a tight squeeze during daylight operations, which led to damage during nighttime, time-critical or poor-visibility conditions. In just two weeks, the team developed and fielded a removable fender to protect the Osprey fuselage from damage. This fender is now being fabricated for fleet-wide use. The Lambertsen award was established in 2011 to recognize individuals with audacity, insight and ingenuity to improve operations. It is named after the creator of the Lambertsen Amphibious Respiratory Unit, precursor to the scuba equipment used by modern special operations forces.
