Lt. Gen. Brad Heithold, commander of Air Force Special Operations Command, presented three Air Commandos Cutting Edge awards here Dec. 9.

The certificates and awards were recognition for accomplishing command goals and objectives, delivering outstanding customer service, improving the work environment, morale and demonstrating exceptional leadership—all while directly supporting AFSOC.

These individuals earned this distinction for their outstanding on-the-job accomplishments.

- Tech. Sgt. Brian Toney, AFSOC NCO in charge of executive communications, set up an overseas video conference connecting eight different locations with the Soundside Club. He rehearsed the event and tested connectivity, solving several complicated connection challenges the day-of to get full audio and video with each location. This effort resulted in a flawless event, allowing Heithold and civic leaders to engage with deployed Air Commandos around the world.

- Michael Williams and Thomas Morley, AFSOC manpower, personnel and services directorate, provided up-to-date, accurate and timely retrieval for pin-point data analysis. The products and information they provided enabled another section to complete time-sensitive taskings and create presentations.

These newest recipients raise the total to 28 individuals recognized this year.

The Cutting Edge award program is an off-shoot of AFSO21. Nominations for a Cutting Edge award can come from anyone, said Christine Martinez, AFSOC manpower analyst and program overseer. Nominations are submitted on the HQ AFSOC Form 37 and approved by the recipient’s director. Specific instructions for Cutting Edge are in AFSOC Headquarters Operating Instruction 36-2801.
