HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- The 1st Special Operations Force Support Squadron hosted the second Alpha Warrior Battle Rig competition at the Commando Hangar, here, April 29.

Alpha Warrior is an obstacle course competition that provides participants a fun way to work out while pushing them to their physical and mental limits.

"[Alpha Warrior] is more than just an obstacle course,” said Brent Steffensen, the managing partner of Alpha Warrior. "[Peoples’] lives change because they get a little taste of something new that they're passionate about. It really builds confidence."

The competition consisted of two battle rigs for children and adults. The youth course included monkey bars, floating chains, swinging ropes and a moving bridge that tested upper body and core strength, balance and cardiovascular endurance. The adult course consisted of a cliffhanger wall, a log swing, floating chains, swinging monkey bars and a climbing staircase that pushed participants to their physical and mental limits.

Participants such as Camille Dougherty, the first place winner in this year’s and last year’s female category, said she keeps signing up for this event because of the physical challenge and the sense of community the event brings.

"The feeling I get by either reaching [my expectation] or surpassing it is a great feeling of achievement," Dougherty said. "I tried something I didn't know I could do, I challenged myself beyond my comfort zone, and I overcame it."

In the end, only a select few could call themselves champions and received trophies to recognize their efforts.
