R. Lee Ermey, host of the Mail Call military technology show, films a segment in front of the Air Force Special Operations School's terrorist capabilities demonstration range at Hurlburt Field, Fla., on Mar. 21. An upcoming episode of the show focuses on Air Force Special Operations Command. "Gunny" Ermey, a retired Marine, is well known both for hosting the show and for his role as a tough-as-nails drill instructor in the film "Full Metal Jacket." He fired a variety of weapons at the range and even prepared what he called "fifty calibre fruit salad" by disintegrating a watermelon at long range with a Barrett rifle more often used to destroy unexploded ordnance on the battlefield.
