Air Force evacuates the sick and wounded

NEW ORLEANS -- A U.S. Air Force HH-60 rescue helicopter lifts off from the international airport here Sept. 1. Hundreds of sorties were completed by the steady arrival and departure of helicopters, bringing in Hurricane Katrina survivors. Active duty, Guard and Reserve units of the Air Force, Army, Navy and Coast Guard, along with civilian aircraft supported the air evacuation of ambulatory and critical care patients to the airport.
