NATO allies commemorate Battle of Normandy D-Day

NATO allied nations perform flyovers in preparation for air drops scheduled for June 5, 2016 over Normandy, France. The statue of an American soldier, named Iron Mike, stands at the top of Memorial Park in Sainte-Mère-Église. Memorial Park is dedicated to American airborne troops who lost their lives during the airdrops on D-Day. During World War II, the Battle of Normandy began on D-Day, June 6, 1944, when approximately 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the coast of France’s Normandy region.
