SECAF awards Air Force Cross, 10 medals to Air Commandos

The Secretary of the Air Force, Heather Wilson, and five members of Spooky 43, an AC-130U Spooky Gunship aircrew assigned to the 4th Special Operations Squadron, stand at attention during the reading of their Distinguished Flying Cross citation, Oct. 17, 2017, at Hurlburt Field, Fla. The SECAF awarded ten Air Force Special Operations Command Air Commandos valorous medals, including the Air Force Cross, for their combined efforts during a fierce firefight in a village near Kunduz Province, Afghanistan on Nov. 2, 2016. Staff Sgt. Richard Hunter, a combat controller with the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron, was awarded the Air Force Cross and nine aircrew members on Spooky 43, received Distinguished Flying Crosses and Air Medals with valor.
