Air Commandos receive 2017 Cheney Award
U.S. Air Force Col. (now Brig. Gen.) Brenda Cartier, director of operations for Air Force Special Operations Command, and U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Matthew Mills, 15th Special Operations Squadron MC-130H Combat Talon II aircraft commander, hold the 2017 Air Force Cheney Award June 13, 2019, at Hurlburt Field, Florida. Mills received the Cheney Award for extraordinary actions performed in support of a humanitarian mission. After Hurricane Maria devastated the Caribbean Islands in September of 2017, Mills’ skills as an MC-130H Combat Talon II aircraft commander proved vital to humanitarian efforts in the area. Mills assisted in the rescue of both island and American citizens and delivery of critical life-saving supplies to those impacted by the hurricane. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Lynette M.
