  • AFSOC’s Next-Gen Emerald Warrior

    Each year, Air Force Special Operations Command takes on the all-important role as host for U.S. Special Operations Command’s exercise Emerald Warrior, a joint exercise which brings together U.S. special operations and conventional forces and those of its international partners and allies to prepare for current and future challenges. In years past, the exercise focused on counter violent extremist organization efforts through enhanced teamwork, but EW 21.1 moved toward less direct action. This year, Emerald Warrior exposed operators to concepts they may not encounter in daily training to increase readiness, effectiveness and make them more dynamic.
  • AFSOC Cyber Squadron Initiative: Arming for the 21st century battle

    Air Force Special Operations Command hosted a Mission Defense Team Conference, Feb. 2-5, 2021, focusing on identifying the organic cyber capabilities needed to protect missions against threats in, through, and from cyberspace. Gen. David Goldfein, former Chief of Staff of the Air Force, signed the Cyber Squadron Initiative Program Action Directive, May 12, 2020. This historic event, five years in the making, ushered in the single largest change in Air Force, charging the Air and Space Force with transforming current communication squadrons into cyber squadrons.
  • 24th SOW launches Special Operations Center For Medical Integration And Development

    The 24th Special Operations Wing launched the Special Operations Center for Medical Integration and Development, a program designed in cooperation between the U.S. Air Force and the University of Alabama-Birmingham to develop and provide advanced standardized training to special operations medics. The training used realistic and innovative techniques including virtual reality, field training exercises and clinical hospital rotations to maintain readiness of Special Operations Surgical Team members, pararescuemen and independent duty medical technicians.
  • Director of Security Forces, deputy chief of staff for Logistics, Engineering and Force Protection visits AFSOC

    Brigadier General Roy Collins, director of Security Forces, deputy chief of staff for Logistics, Engineering and Force Protection, visited Hurlburt Field Jan. 11 to gain familiarity of Air Force Special Operations Command’s security, force protection and special tactics efforts. The general was joined on his visit by Chief Master Sgt. Brian Lewis, Security Forces career field manager.
  • Special Tactics Airman to be awarded the Air Force Cross

    Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett will be presenting the Air Force Cross to a Special Tactics Airman during a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. MST at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, Dec.10, 2020. U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Alaxey Germanovich, an ST combat controller with the 26th Special Tactics Squadron, 24th Special Operations Wing, Air Force Special Operations Command, will be awarded the nation’s second highest medal for gallantry against an armed enemy of the U.S. in combat.
  • Special tactics ensures contingency response readiness during HA/DR exercise

    Air Force Special Tactics operators participated in a hurricane response exercise at Eglin Range, Florida, Oct. 27, 2020. The local humanitarian assistance and disaster relief exercise helped ST operators hone personnel recovery and global access skills in a training environment to ensure they’re prepared for real-world natural disasters and catastrophic events.
