    The Air Commando Association hosted an Air Force Special Operations Command women’s panel during a heritage symposium Dec. 7 at Hurlburt Field, Florida. The panel, comprised of top female leaders within AFSOC, focused on women in the fight.
  • AFSOC Airmen receive MHS and AMSUS awards

    Air Force Special Operations Command medical Airmen were recognized during the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States annual awards dinner on Nov. 29 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, Maryland. Two Airmen and one unit within AFSOC were awarded for outstanding contributions to the readiness of the medical mission.

    Five AFSOC Airmen were inducted into the Air Commando Hall of Fame at the Air Commando Association awards banquet on Dec. 7.
  • Grit and determination: AFSOC Airmen slide with Team USA bobsled

    Two Airmen within Air Force Special Operations Command were selected to compete with the USA Bobsled team this year. Capt. Dakota Lynch, a U-28A pilot with the 34th Special Operations Squadron, and Capt. Chris Walsh, a Special Tactics officer with the 24th Special Operations Wing, are push athletes who are ultimately competing for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team in 2022.
  • Fallen Special Tactics operator remembered during hometown memorial

    Hundreds of Special Tactics Airmen, family and friends gathered to commemorate a fallen teammate, son, fiancé, and warrior during a memorial service, Dec. 6, 2018, in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. The memorial honored the life and legacy of U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Dylan Elchin, a Special Tactics combat controller assigned to the 26th Special Tactics Squadron, who was killed Nov. 27, 2018, when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb while deployed in support of Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan.
  • 137th SOW holds first change of command since historic mission change

    Almost 1,000 Airmen gathered in a hangar beneath a garrison flag that hung from the rafters – a flag that witnessed the beginning of an era six years ago and now the beginning of a new one. As it and the Airmen watched the 137th Special Operations Wing (137th SOW) commander firmly grasp the newest guidon, they also watched only the second commander to ever pilot the Wing since changing to a special operations wing in 2015.
  • Special Tactics Airman killed in action in Afghanistan

    A Special Tactics Airman was killed when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, Nov. 27, 2018. Staff Sgt. Dylan Elchin, 25, a Special Tactics combat controller with the 26th Special Tactics Squadron, was deployed in support of OPERATION Freedom’s Sentinel.
  • AFSOC civilian receives DOD Distinguished Civilian Service Award

    An Air Force Special Operations Command civilian received the Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award at the Pentagon Nov. 15. Tom Jones, AFSOC A4 logistics, engineering and force protection directorate, received the award for exceptional performance as the chief of rotary wing and special mission aircraft section. He ensured over 150 of AFSOC’s CV-22 Osprey, MQ-9 Reaper and non-standard aviation fleets were ready, relevant, sustainable and modernized.
  • AFSOC selects Spark Tank Competition semifinalists

    Air Force Special Operations Command selected two semifinalists for the Air Force Spark Tank Competition Nov. 13. Within AFSOC, 19 Airmen submitted ideas geared toward restoring readiness and driving innovation for the Air Force. Five Airmen were selected to present their ideas in front of Lt. Gen. Brad Webb, commander of AFSOC. Out of these five, the two semifinalists were selected for competition at the Air Force level.
  • AFSOC leadership visits Invisible Wounds Center

    On Oct. 29, Lt. Gen. Brad Webb, commander of Air Force Special Operations Command, visited and showed his support for the Invisible Wounds Center, which enables service members to remain ready and resilient to carry out operations.
